As you enter the Apollo Theatre with its colorful lighting and djembe drums in each seat, you can guess you’re in for a pretty unique entertainment experience.   Once you’re greeted by the sounds of the djembe drums, you know you are right.

Djembe! The Show takes the audience on a musical journey through the history of the West African djembe drum beat and its migration throughout the world.

Led by amazing vocalist and South side native Rashada Dawan, and Broadway performer Ben Hope, Djembe celebrates the influence of the djembe beat on nearly all forms of music- from swing to salsa to pop.

With help from the brilliant Master Drummer Sekou Conde, the trio delivers a joyous display of song, dance and rhythm.

And the cool part… you can get in on the fun.

Audience members get a how-to in djembe drumming, and a chance to play along, with a rather impressive band.  It’s the kind of fun that’s great for the family.
