Chosen Few DJs

July 1- July 2- Chosen Few Picnic and Music Festival- Chosen Few DJs
It’s hard to believe that the Chosen Few Picnic is in its 26th year of slaying beats. What started as a small gathering of Chicago’s dedicated “househeads” has grown into a wildly popular 2-day festival attracting international DJ’s and patrons from around the country.  Veterans DJ’s Andre Hatchett, Terry Hunter and Steve “Silk” Hurley are just a few of the who’s who will be on the turntables. Taste of Chicago resized

July 5- July 9th – Taste of Chicago – (Sunday, July 9th– The O’Jays)
This event needs no introduction. The internationally known festival featuring great food, and top-notch musical acts makes its annual July run. Just know that the O’Jays are this year’s closing act on July 9th at the Petrillo Band Shell.

The Artist Lounge

July 7- The Artist LoungeSouth Side Community Art Center
Artists, poets, musicians- this event’s for you. The Artist Lounge is where creatives come and vibe. This event runs every 1st and 3rd Friday at the South Side Community Art Center.

July 8- Johnny Gill with Special Guest Angie Stone – Country Club Hills Theater
It’s rare that R&B diva Angie Stone visits the Windy City, but this July she’s blessing the stage at the Country Club Hills Theater. Along with crooner Johnny Gill, who’s actually the headliner, there should be some sho’nuff soul sangin’ going down. Tickets available at cchtheater.com.

July 8 and 9-  43rd Annual Arts and Crafts Festival- the DuSable Museum
Music, food, and arts and crafts vendors are all part of this long-running festival. Grab a unique find while supporting local small business owners.


July 14th– July 16th– Pitchfork Music Festival- Indy artists including Solange, Tribe Called Quest and Chicago’s Jamilah Woods

July 15th – Silver Room Sound System Block Party –2016 marked the Silver Room Block Party’s first run in the Hyde Park neighborhood- and the turnout was HUGE. July 19th– Sounds of History Jazz Series- DuSable Museum
The First Lady of Song- Ella Fitzgerald”- Celebrating 100 years
Featuring Denise Thimes and Dee Alexander
The DuSable Museum returns with its summer Jazz Series – Sounds of History. This month’s installment features Denise Thimes and acclaimed artist Dee Alexander. It’s a great way to unwind after a long day at work. So grab your lawn chair because this should be a treat- and it’s FREE.

July 22nd– V103 Third Annual Summer Block Party – with Jill Scott and special guests- BBD, Nelly and Kelly Rowland, SWV at Huntington Bank Pavilion- Northerly Island
If you follow the concert scene in Chicago, then you know that Jill Scott and Northerly Island go together like peanut butter and jelly. Jill Scott’s Summer Block Party has become a highly anticipated summertime staple.   And this year she’s mixing it up with other musical veterans including BBD and SWV. Be ready to sing along.
