black-chicago-eats-week“It started as a dare.” That’s what writer/publisher Toure Muhammed told Good Day Chicago about the beginnings of his latest endeavor. Muhammed had been challenged to find as many black-owned restaurants as he could. Initially, Muhammed thought he would find 15-20 restaurants.  However, as research began, he found closer to 100 restaurants. He knew there were others who wanted to support black-owned restaurants, and began to work on Black Chicago Eats-an online directory of Chicago’s black-owned restaurants.
Now at nearly 200 restaurants, Black Chicago Eats readers will be able to find diverse cuisine choices from across Chicago and the suburbs. The site will also feature restaurant reviews.
To kick off the website launch, Muhammed created Black Chicago Eats Week-which is currently running through August 12. Readers are encouraged to get out and support these businesses and to try something new.
Black Chicago is currently running a condensed Beta test version, however the full website launches on August 12.
With so many available food options, Black Chicago Eats will take some of the guess work out of “what’s for dinner?”
